I like this helmet from shade tree powersports at $40.00

I don't have a large head and some half helmets make me look like I have a mushroom on my shoulders.

I assume you mean a DOT approved helmet, I have the carbon fiber from ACC or Headtriphelmets and I like it. Had a Skid Lid it sat too far up on my head looked stupid felt stupid. I alos like the new Harley Hybrid Ultra-Light Half Helmet it is very light maybe even lighter than the carbon fiber.ou may not like the way they look but the Adjustable air deflectors help with the buffeting, alot of that is coming from under the fairing didn't believe it till I put them on.

I'm trying to visualize that.
I want to shape the interior of mine as well, but I need some help on a useable tool.
Rod. Modification of a DOT helmet is illegal. So I definitely suggest that absolutly no-one do the following mod or you too would be a criminal and I for one would never want to contribute to the deliquency of a biker.

Due to recent HELMET **** activity in my state, someone I know really well finally broke down and bought a $50 HCI DOT helmet to replace his favorite skid lid. This person wears an XL but bought a Medium knowing that he would modify it. Keep in mind that all DOT helmets are basically the same. They have 1 to 1.5 inches of high density styrofoam designed to compress or "crush" on impact. Thus, the "Mushroom" look.

So this guy I know I places a pillow on the slab in the shop and places the helmet upside down on that pillow to absorb some shock and not scratch it up. He then takes a baseball bat and places the rounded (barrell end) into the helmet and wacks the handle end with a sledge. He does this evenly all the way around the entire interior of the helmet until all of the styrofoam is now compressed to 1/2 inch or less. Viola!! No more mushroom head.

We wear regular HCI DOT Shorties and they're great. No shroom head, pretty light for a non-carbon fiber lid, and for 40 bucks or so, they're tough to beat.

You should be able to slightly compress the styrofoam around the for-head area to relieve the pressure.
