with your 130 on the bike, measure 1/4 inch each side for each size wider to the swing arms and belt/belt guard. Sometimes in just switching brands the same size gets a little tight due to differences in the style of tread design and tread wrap. A 130/90/16 in Avon will cause just a slight rub on the inner belt splash guard.

I have a 2000 road king classic and i need new rear tire, i thought that everyone on here had said that they were putting a 140 on the back of these. i have called 3 harley dealers and they tell me a 140 wont fit? so whats the truth? will it fit or not?

HD changed to the 140 rear tire in 2004 on all the touring models. Your's came with a 130. That doesn't mean you can't do the mods to make it work.

You can use the newer MU85B (140) rear tire.
You might need this $35 spacer and you might have to trim the front of your guard.

You will like the wider tire look, you will get better mileage from the newer style and it handles more overall weight.
The specs for your stock D402 (MT90B16) rear tire:
Overall Diameter: 25.70
Width: 5.20
Tread depth: 9/32
Load rating: 827 lbs
Specs for the newer D402 (MU85B16) rear tire used since 2004:
Overall Diameter: 25.71
Width: 5.51
Tread depth: 11/32
Load rating: 908 lbs
You might want to look into this tire if your dealership will NOT install the spacer on your bike so you can use the new MU85B16 rear tire.
Specs for the Dunlop Elite 3 (Replaces the old 491
Elite II)
Overall Diameter: 25.70
Width: 5.15
Tread depth: 10/32
Load rating: 830 lbs
The Elite 3 has a different tread pattern and a hard rubber compound. Or so I have been told.
Why did I switch to the newer bigger rear tire? (MT90B16)
I was looking for a longer lasting rear tire. With the way I ride I was only getting round 7k-8K from my rear. This new MU85B16 tire is suppose to get around 10K. If it does…Man would I be happy, very happy.
Example:
For every 3 newer style rear tires, I would have gone through 4 of the older style tires.
Big, big savings for me!
