Thanks- but the book says- like 10-12lbs. single for my weight. I am worried that if I pump em to 35-40lbs- that if I ride over a leaf it would hurt. Won't do that. If I lower the tire air pressure below recomended that will ruin my tires. Don't wanna do that either. $$$
You CAN have a smoth ride on a motorcycle, There is no reason that the rear tire should bounce off of the road on a 2 inch bump. It is like a hard tail almost.
Glad to know others have the same problem.

 

Try 6 pounds in your shocks and leave the tire pressure at what it says on the side of the tire.

 

They bottom out at 8lbs.

 

Thanks- Graham- I searched all through the forum before posting and could not locate a word on shocks or ride but the one about the ohlins and the man that builds the shocks.
I was looking for another option and opinions. If you could tell me how to find that thread I will get that long drink. Thanks.
I have considered Progressive as I have a set of 418s all new and raced with them and ohlins and works for years. Not sure that they do the trick for street bikes.
Gonna spend the winter exploring my options. Got an 8000 mi. ride next summer.

I think it calls for 40lbs- 38 ain't too bad- I doubt that you loose many miles at 38.
38 in the tire is still not as good of a ride as it should be. I honestly think that a quality shock is out there that will perform properly. I stand up on the floor boards a lot to lessen the impact to my back and kidneys.
I had to remove the heel shifter.

 

Check out Motorcyclemetal.com - ask for Howard. I have Penske shocks on my 2009 Road King and the ride is great. I have 12" shocks - so if you go with 13" shocks I'd imagine the ride would be even better.

You need more air pressure I ride 25-27 solo, and 40 2 up and my ride is smooth as silk. I weigh 225. Also, make sure the pressure is good in your tires I ride 36 front and 40 back on my Ultra.

 

I will try that, but it doesn't stand to reason that if 18-20lbs is too stiff and bounces the rear wheel off the ground that 25-27lbs would make it any smother. Are you sure your guage is correct- you need to have that checked.

Tire pressure is always perfect.
