I have a new ultra classic 2006 with 250 miles (Full Rinehart exhaust - PCIII - Stage 1) - The bike has back fired a couple of times while starting it cold and has stalled once at idle when hot. The engine also shakes around much more when the bike is hot at idle. It is not consistent. It's only happened a couple of times. I called the service department at my local HD dealer where I bought it from. They said this can be normal during the break in period. Just wanted to ask around to see if I should accept that answer or not.

I do know my buddies similar bike seemed to have less engine movement (shaking) after his 1000 mail maintenance routine.

I've only hadn my '06 Ultra for a little over a week. I'm taking it in to my dealer on Friday for the 1K mile checkup. I haven't noticed any real backfires, only a couple of engine pops or sputters (really don't know what you'd call it) when closing the throttle and coming to a stop. I have not had it to stall at all. Also, no more shakes from the engine when hot or cold. I'd wait until after the 1k before I'd get alarmed. So far, I dearly love this motorcycle.

 

I had all that. Shaking, spitting, sputtering and coughing. Got the 25 degree injectors and stopped all that when cold. Still got hot and would shake at a idel. Put on the PCIII with the maps that they supplied. Did not help. Had it dyno tuned by a certified dynojet guy and it idels well. Runs cooler and strong as hell. Really makes you a believer when you open the throttle. My 06 Ultra has about 10,000 miles on it now. Love to ride this bike.

 

another thing. They have had problems with broken motor mounts on 06 bikes. Have your dealer check it out. That would make the motor bounce.
