Speedometer Calibrators
#11
Just a quick question. I have a 02 Road Glide with a 6 speed and had an S&S calibration unit that no longer works. I went to replace it and the documentation from S&S says that it wont work on a 6 speed. Was the bike you had it on a 6 speed?

I had to have a speedo healer installed on my 08 FLHTC after having it converted to a Trike. I does correct the speedo reading issues and I did lose the 6th gear indicator light but the cruise control still works... just not like factory cruise. Originally the cruise would engage in any gear once you were over 30MPH. Now it won't engage until you are in 5th gear. This is OK for cruising but I miss it at the lower speeds to keep me crom tickets in the slower speed zones.

I Emailed one of the calibrator outfits (don't remember which one) and asked why the unit can't be installed at the speedometer rather than at the transmission so that ONLY the speedometer is corrected, not the speed signal to the big computer so that this problem won't be generated. Got a confusing answer that the speed signal is used too many places to do that. That just seems to perpetuate the problem, but I'm sure there is a lot more there than I understand. I wound up moving the needle on the speedometer. It shows about 4 mph below zero when not moving, but I don't see in that condition very often. The rest of the time it is right on. I also was told by a Harley service writer that they can't access the speedo calibration with their computer gadget. People on some forums seem to believe otherwise.
