My RK calls for 36 psi, 40 psi for 2 up. I run 40 all the time. I dought that tire pressure is the problem; it's more than likely the crappy stock shocks. I went with progressive 440's and love them, really took the harshness out.

I run 40psi and no air in the shocks solo
I run 40psi and 15psi in the shocks two up
With two up the total load on the bike (people and stuff in the bags) is about 400 lbs
Run 36 lbs solo with 10 lbs in rear shocks.Good ride.Need to experiment with air in shocks depending on your weight and what you are carrying in the saddle bags.Need to use HD air pump to get correct shock pressures.
36 psi in rear tire is under inflated. You'll be replacing it way before you should need to. Ask any "tire man" that knows his stuff and you'll find that on any highway tire(truck, car, bike, trailer) max inflation provides longest tire wear. Adjust suspension if need be. I ain't sayin whats right or wrong, cuz comfort is pretty special goin down the road. The Michelins on my 3/4 ton Chev w/ Duramax calls for 80psi max pressure. You run that much unloaded it will beat you to death. Good tires ain't cheap and I hate buyin tires so I try to get the most I can out of all of em. My Streetglide gets 38 in front and 42 in rear. Still tinkerin with the air press in the shocks. As usual with anything there is always better suspension options. All it takes is money.[sm=signs003.gif]
