Sounds like you have your mind made up, so, I say go for it. Could not get riding from Ohio to Ca out of mind so I finally just did it..... That being said...here are a couple of suggestions to the already great ideas brought up.

1. Get the LDComfort riding shorts. I have tried them all including the Under Armor brand and there is no comparison.

2. Get an ole tire and practice repairing it. Knowing how you want to do it down the road will save you some grief.

3. I see no one mentioned a GPS. Might be something to consider.

4. Don't assume that taking off clothes is the answer when it is hot. Stay covered and protected.

My .02.

I myself am considered the Iron Butt, 11,000...........my wife thinks I am nutz........

That sounds like a lot of fun if you were one of the 90% that will take 14 days and enjoy it.
Pure misery for the riders trying to win. I think the winner will do it in 5 days.

If your in it to win, can you burn 5 to 6 tanks of fuel back to back to back and combine all your other stops with getting fuel.

Oh yea, wonder if having a catheter would be considered cheating?

Wish I could do it but looks like the closest I can get is watching on TV

I would do it 2 times....
1st time make it a learning experience...then take the year to ponder weather i could actually do it again (or want to) and win?
2nd time, take all that knowledge from first ride (and my $1000.00) and go ***** out!!!
But thats just me as i don't have 1k to toss to the wind...
I wonder if any of these guys go in groups and share the prize or if you are allowed to have a tow vehicle with another bike incase yours breaks doun....Do you have to win with original bike?
No matter what, Good Luck,Ride Safe and we want stories and PICS!!!!!! :-)

Way to many unanswered questions..
Rules say Speed limit and you are tracked by GPS , you speed you lose?
History from "last year"??
Routes taken, no winner, who won?

Looks like a self enhancing promoting nothing run....

Waste of money......... plus do the math 1000 bucks entry with 1000 bikes = 1 million.prize 500k..who's making a profit?

but those kind of challenges do look kinda fun.....

If you want to be competitive in this race you need an auxilery fuel tank. Similar to this:

An Aux tank would be nice to have. But the rules say no Aux tank and Max gas tank is 6 Gallons. Tell me about your tank and hook up.

P.S. I also plan to enter and ride this event. Figure it will take a max of 4.5-5 days to go the 7,000 miles, if one is wanting to win this event.
