Default Question about riding and high blood pressure

I am asking this as I used to have blood pressure in the normal range (128 over 72) and i have been noticing my BP has been slowly rising over the last few years after I took back up riding. I just happen to ride everyday to work and if I have a DR's appt. they always take my BP and the nurse gets a little alarmed as it is always elevated above normal. After setting a spell all is well!

I know riding raises your adrenalin level but I thought it was suppose to be relaxing at times, for most of us at least. The occasional errant cager will get your "dander" up so to speak.

I and my wife rode the Glide to a dentist appt when just by the way had a loose pea gravel parking area. I had to let wifey off so I could maneuver around to a parking area. When I signed in they...again...took my BP and said it was 205 over 140! WTF she took it again and was getting ready to call 911 as she honestly thought I was having a heart attack. I actually felt fine. I told her about wrestling a 900 lb Harley in her gravel driveway was the culprit!

Has anyone else had a problem with this?

Do a search. Seems to me I've seen this question come up a few times before.

Stress increases blood pressure. If you drop the bike, blood pressure goes up. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Sprinkle some beta blockers and ACE inhibitors on your Cheerios in the morning and all is well.

Seriously, go see a doctor and get the correct treatment. It's tough getting old. Familial tendencies are silent killers.

Uhhhhh... why not get someone QUALIFIED to interpret your BP situation? Go see a doc. I hardly think any of us on the forum (unless they are a doc) is an expert in this area, and why mess with something like BP than can be very serious?

I've been taking meds for high BP since I was 18. Missed a trip to Viet Nam on account of it. I'm talking about REALLY HIGH. If riding caused it to be any worse , I would have been dead long ago. Trust me!

I've been on high blood pressure medication since 2003. I only have to take half a pill every day but I have to do it on a regular basis. Having had any problems while riding.

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on TV - GO GET whatever it causing the BP address. You only live once and you need to make the most of it!!

I take a BP pill every morning and an aspirin per the doc. Riding in open country slows my heart rate and lowers the pressure but urban riding or dodging cagers makes it go up.

As others have said, go see a pro, you can't wrench on this yourself !

On second thought you probably ought to have a stress test done as well. You may have some blockage that is causing it to jump under stressors. I'll bet it also elevates if you walk any distance or climb any stairs. Please don't put it off, I'd hate to hear about you waking up dead one morning
