Ride report...after 255 install on 96 incher
#62
I had an 07 Fatboy. 96ci. with V&H big shots, power commander and SE heavy breather.
Had my dealer install an HQ 103 kit. Mileage dropped to about 37/38 hwy. But was extremely pleased with the power. Results were 106hp and 115tq. The bike really got it on. The cost was about $3400.00 total for the dealer to do this install. They do bike from states all around. They are located in Topeka, KS if anyone is interested. Just tell Rick in service that a guy named Rick recommended them. He will take care of you. I now ride an 2010 Road King.

TD's will be counter-productive, as they will reduce low-end TQ, and increasing TQ is why you are supposedly installing the 255's in the first place. The only issue with you is to find a FP map that will be right for your combo, and I'm not sure the best way to go about that. You don't need PCV (with or without AT) or SEST to make the 255's work, although both would provide more flexibility in tuning.
I know the TD's aren't as good for low end TQ as 2:1, but I didn't think it'd hurt so much that it would negate the 255s...is this correct?
I don't think so, but I'm not knowledgeable about the scope of the FP. I would call Jamie at Fuel Moto and quiz him about it, as they sell most every tuner except SEST, which is a Harley product. If they have a map for your exact setup, which I think is doubtful, you would be set by just spending $300 on a PCV. AT would definitely do it for you, but at $300 more may not be in your budget.
My understanding about SEST is that there are few canned maps available, and mostly (all?) for HD products like SE mufflers. I doubt if your dealer will be able to get you an accurate map for your exact setup unless he's dyno-tuned a bike exactly like yours. You do need to hash this out, though, as the map you're using now will undoubtedly not be optimal once the cams are installed.

I'm sure you're right...after more thought, I could probably just get the PC-V from Jamie and have him put a map in it...I know that I will eventually go to a 103 when I get my budget together, I just wanted something that'll give me better performance without spending too much...

I also add the SE 255's first. I have considered ,going to 103. Not real sure as I am happy with just the cams right now.
However, you can not get just the pistons and cylinders. Thats not really not much of a problem, I will bore any way.
I had the fp 2490 map in mine before going to the pcv. The pcv map that fuelmoto installed for me is really close. The pcv is better, runs cooler, cranks easier after warm, smoother running. My mpg went up.
I like it better than the fuelpak.
Nothing wrong with he fuelpak if they have a programed/tested, the 2490 map is not for 96ci/se255 cams. It works good but not designed for the 96/255 set up
True duals will cost some low end but with the se 255 cams you will not notice it much.
The slip on's can either help or hurt depending on the back pressure.
I am using Se 64895-07a's

Iclick, I finally got a laptop so I can send you the map now.
As soon as it warms up enough to do it.
getting old you know

Thanks iClick and DirtDobber...I know I want to eventually put a strong 103 kit in here, matter of fact, I've already priced it out with Bennett's Performance here in SoCal, but I don't have $4,200 (give/take) to do it. Also, I am considering the TD's because I already have the Monster Ovals and I really like them and don't want to go in a different direction just yet. I know I'll lose some of the TQ benefit, but I figure the 255s, PC-V, and TDs is a reasonable compromise for the time being. I love this forum because it provides an opportunity to bounce ideas off others that can keep you from making costly mistakes--thanks again!

I wish I could get that kind of milage. I have just been getting 39 with the 103/255 cams, but I can't seem to keep it below 85 on the freeway which may be some of the problem. Glad you're having fun. That's what it's all about.
