I have a Heritage and a Street Glide. Like others say the Softail is easier in traffic and local riding and the SG is unbelievable for highway and distance. There is no doubt the SG is front heavy and I'm still getting used to that but it corners better than the Softail and I'm loving the radio.

Don't rent a touring bike then, cause I'm sure you will change your mind. A soft tail can't handle like a touring bike and a dyna will put a soft tail too shame as well. Just my .02

If you go on long rides, you won't look back! I fought moving up to the big bikes for a while. I can ride 800 miles a day on the SG comfortably. That would not happen on my old Softial or Dyna!!!

I've ridden one, and didn't mind it at all. I just don't like the look of the fairing. I've had plenty of Harley's in my life, from a '69 xlch to my present '06 Fatboy, I like the clean lines of the softail line.

I'll give you this though - out of the fairinged models, the street glide is nicer on the eyes than the UC and RG. Just my .02.

Oh I won't change my mind.
