2010 Touring WOW! Is this right?

Thanks for the posts Jamie & others!
My brother in law and myself have been debating over a 2009 versus a 2010 Road King for SW Florida riding.
As I’m sure you know, the heat & humidity in Florida can be substantial during the summer riding months. Any additional heat is a major factor in riding comfort especially in the Florida stop & go traffic.
Although I can accept your point regarding the top notch performance of the 2010, I still have grave concerns regarding the additional heat issue.
In any event, I very much appreciate your input regarding the topic of this post.
Regards, Bob

I just finished putting 1k on my 2010 UC in the past three weeks. I did not experience any heat related issues at all. Of course cats run hotter than a straight pipe because that is what helps them do their job.
Identifying that the cats run hotter is just a ploy to market something to you and the fact of how hot a cat runs is not material to anything. Again, it will run at the temp that it is supposed to run at. Big deal.
You can add whatever fuel pack out there. The cat will still be the temp that it should be. But if you run too rich the cat will get hotter burning off the unspent fuel.
If you remove the cats and reprogram the map, you could face up to a $32k fine from EPA if you were ever caught.

The guys at my dealer have no problem putting pipes on which does away with the cat. I asked if that voided the warranty they said not here. A guy just left on his '10 LTD. for California and they said if he needed it worked on and they wouldn't under warranty out there to get it fixed and bring them back the bill. I wondered too about the EPA....they take that **** pretty serious

We own both 2009 and 2010 bikes and there is certainly a difference in radiant heat from the exhaust pipe which can be easily measured. I personally log many miles on both bikes and the catalyst equipped 2010 bike generates signifigantly more heat, this is how a catalyst is designed to work. This is not so apparent when moving but more so when stationary, especially in warmer temperatures. This is also influenced by engine load and we have to be very careful when testing on the dyno not to overheat it as we can turn the catalyst red hot in one 15 second dyno run and this is with a 2500 CFM blower on it to keep it cool. I have also seen firsthand as well as seen several threads here and on the CVO forum where the collector was red hot at highway speed. Remember the core of the catalyst in the collector is designed with an operating temp of approx 900-1400F and there is simply no way the pipe can run as cool as on the 09. Regardless of the heat the 2010 is a great bike, with comparable performance to the 09 and the extra heat does not really bother me, especially considering I have been riding it to an from work in 40 degree weather this fall.

Oh. I forgot. The EPA police are out in force to screw us over.
This whole Green movement needs to go back to the stone age where it belongs. IMHO.

My 2010 Ultra Limited feels cooler than my '07 did. I rode my '07 10K miles and I have ~3K miles on the 2010 so far. My '07 had the Zippers 103 "Muscle Kit" with a D&D Fat Cat 2 into 1 pipe. Maybe because all the exhaust was on the right side of the bike or something, but it felt a lot hotter. Also, the 2010 has those heat shields under the front of the seat that my '07 didn't have. In any case, the new one feels noticeably cooler. I realize that lean running can increase temps somewhat, but so can dumping a lot of fuel and creating a lot more power. When I was pushing my '07 hard, it would get very hot in short order.
FYI - This new 2010 has a ton of power stock. I'm really surprised.

Man am I glad some bureaucrat in a cubicle somewhere knows what's best for me and my family. Makes me feel so secure. I'll sleep a lot better tonight. Well, I have to go now. I need my diaper changed and have to call the Governors office to get someone over here...
