Default Need Help Installing Chrome Gauge Trim

Wanted to know how some of you guys and gals have installed these chrome gauge trim pieces. I get this two sided tape with the rings and now wondering if I need to pull all the gauges out of the dash. Can I just put the tape on the rings then push them on or do I have to place the tape on the gauge first.

Dont remove the gauges. Just take the sticky backing off and FIRMLY push it onto the bezel until it seats. Dont use too much of the sticky stuff. Use three or four 1/4 " strips per gauge.

Sorry I didnt answer all of your questions. Put the sticky tape on the chrome rings first, then push it onto the gauge.

Don't bother with the tape, they don't even use it at the Harley shop. Get some permatex clear silicone and put 3 dabs on the small rings and 5 dabs on the big ones push em on and wait a few hours to dry. I fiddled f@#ked with that stupid tape for awhile with no success, phoned the tech at the Harley shop and he gave me the good advice 10 minutes later I was done.

Good luck!

Whatever method you use, make sure the gauges are CLEAN first.

clear silicone is what my HG guru told me to use. Just be prepared with a few clean rags to wipe off any that might squeeze out.

I used the tape and had no problems. Just cut it into the lengths the instructions said, stuck them on the rings, and popped them on, no problem! (Didn't remove the gauges, that shouldn't be necessary.) What I found was the best help was a pair of skinny needlenose pliers to pull the backing off after you get the tape on the inside of the rings.

I used the tape on the Speedo and Tach but on the rest of the guages the fit was snug enough that I just pushed them on without tape or silicon and they have stayed on just fine (for 6500 miles now).
