Default Screw in rear tire

I was out riding today just perfect.

On my 2009 Road King with only 2200 miles picked up a screw right in the middle of the rear tire. Still holding air. What is are peoples opinion of getting patched or plugged vs replacing at 2200 miles.

Thanks

John

if your gonna repair it then i would suggest removing the tire and using a patch, or one of those patch plugs. i dont know about in your area but the shop i worked at we refuse to patch or plug a tire for liability reasons. if i nail or screw pierces the tire it can damage the cords and potentially lead to a blow out.

Have you confirmed it IS leaking air? You might have got lucky and it didnt puncture the tire. Try spraying som windex, soapy water or good ol spit and wiggle the screw to see if bubbles come out. If it does dont pull it out until you at a place to repair or replace the tire.
I myself would go with another tire, why take a chance if your riding 2 up or going far away.

I've had the same thing and replaced my tire, but I was younger and valued my life more than the cost of a new tire. Well, I guess I'd still buy a new one, imho.

I've stopped advising people to patch or plug their tires, any punctured tires should be replaced immediately and the old tire sent to me for repair and testing. I'll fix it and document it for the masses... Hell, I'll even cover shipping. Ain't I a nice guy.

Guess that covers my opinion, fix it and keep an eye on it.

I had a similar problem once. Like some have said, why chance your life on a $10 patch.

I rode to my local dealership and grabbed my screw driver. I backed out the screw and it didnt cause a leak. I was ready to spend the money on a new tire.

When I bought my 09 street glide I also purchased the extended warranty with tire protection. I ride to work a lot and am good to get a screw in my car tire once in a while so I figured I would be just as lucky on the bike.

i would go the safe route, but also cheap out. put a tube in it. that'll get you for the next 8k+ miles until its time to replace again.
