My neighbor told me his 2008 Ultra fell over in his driveway.
I told him I wouldn't think it would have caused much damage since it has the engine and saddlebag guards.
He said it broke the fiberglass on the lid. He had it fixed and repainted.
I went over and looked at it and thought HD could have made the bag guards a little different, so they might protect the bags better, in a easy type fall over.
I have read numerous posts about baggers falling over and not suffering any damage, because of the guards.
Are there other members that have suffered bag damage from a fairly easy tip over, or was he just unlucky.
Is there a reason they aren't designed different, to protect better?

Are his saddlebag guards scratched at all, or just plastic damage?

 

had 2 easy dropps just a little scratch on the gaurd no other damage .

 

I have an 09 EGC and dumped going across a mud washout on RT66 in TX, scatched the bag guard, and that was it

 

I've got chrome guards with the holes for the saddlebag rails in case anyone needs them ($100 for the pair) I swapped mine out to the comfort profile.

I was thinking of maybe switching to the comfort bars myself to make the wifey more comfortable. Do these give that much more room for the passengers legs without putting a dent in the back of her calf? Why did you switch, looks or function?

 

The '08s are aren't made out of Fiberglass. It's ABS Plastic.

 

Switched for function....for the wife.

 

Easy drops... yup... catch this one... on the Dragon!!! Nothing but some scratches on the guards. Wish I could extend the bags and the guards! I love the look of the stretched bags with the pipes going through the bag. I don't recall if he said fiberglass, when he said that he had to have the bag lid repaired and painted. I probably just assumed that is what they were.
He said it tore it up . He had to have it patched up and then repainted. He brought it to a body shop and they fixed it for $300.
A lot of responses saying they had no body damage, because of the guards. So I guess he was just unlucky.
