Possibly ordering a new SG this week, but need advice on improving the rear suspension without compromising the streetglides lowered stance too much.

If I put in 13" HD Roadking/Ultra shocks, is there a lowering kit that I can use that doesn't actually reduce the amount of travel???

Or should I put in 12" or 12.5" good quality aftermarket shocks??

I would have thought this was a popular upgrade? considering the relatively "harsher" ride compared to the other bikes in the touring range?

I'm running the 12" Progressive 412 shocks and am happy with the ride, much improved over the H-D air shock. This shock is a pretty good bang for the buck. There are better shock upgrades out there but these cost half of what most of them cost. You might want to consider the 12.5" which would give you a little more travel but not change the Street Glide stance that much. I've run these on 4 bikes and been very happy with the improvement they made. Just put a set on my girlfriends 883 Iron also.

 

Just switched my 2009 SG shocks out with 2009 Ultra take-offs purchased on e-bay.
Dealer quoted me $368 + tax for the shocks I got for $71 + shipping on e-bay
One inch more travel, 3" verses 2"
It did raise the back of the bike up but gives me a much better ride

I run 20-25 lbs in my stock shocks when riding solo or 45-50 lbs when riding with the wife. I have no problems with the ride. I weigh about 200lbs and the wife is about 120. I run a little more pressue when I plan on riding more aggressively. I agree with the earlier post. Ride the bike for a couple of thousand miles, you might not need to change anything.
