Do I dare mention the Sears red jack, had it for my Sporty and it does just fine lifting the SG. Caught it on sale around $60.00

if you're on a budget, then hard to beat the SEARS red or yellow jack.

Are you talking about a table lift or a jack? Table lift is what the shops mostly use. Definately more expensive and takes up more room, but gets the bike higher up. That being said, I have a Harbor Freight $69 ATV/motorcycle jack and a $800 panther table lift.

I don't buy much from Harbor Freight but I used my buddies table lift from there and the next day I went and bought one. Got it for under $300 on sale. Best money I've spent on my bike to date. I wouldn't recomend it if your lifting 10 bikes a day (as it's short stroke foot pump). But for home use it's great.
