Cool Scalloping fronts on Dunlops new 407s

my 09 RG has 10,000 miles on it, and the front tire is scaloping,, just wondering if anyone else has the same issue... kept tire press at 34 36 psi.

A few things... First, there are MANY thread here about this tire cupping. Second, you say that you keep the pressure "at 34 36 psi". I take that to mean 34 front and 36 rear. If that's the case, then the cupping/scalloping is likely a result of under-inflation. The 09's call for 36 front & 40 rear.

Low tire pressure will exacerbate this wear pattern and you will lose many serviceable miles by running low. Improper balance has nothing to do with cupping on a motorcycle tire. Improper balance will merely cause your bike to vibrate within certain specific speed ranges.

Well they never changed mine for free, 9300 miles and it was all over for the 407, I ran 36psi when the bike was new then up'd it to 38psi for the last few thousand miles and it still cupped. Hope the 408 lasts longer than that at 300 bucks a pop! I ain't happy about that.

40 front and rear is the new suggested air pressure for the D407s. It does make a difference in the ride. The MOCO replaced my cupped 407 with a new 408 at ~11,000 miles for free. Call and tell them your concerned with what appears to be premature tire wear and very uneven wear. Took some talking but they did it for me last month. They told me they were getting LOTS of calls about the D407s poor wear. (Especially after they announced the new tire for the 2009s would give better wear with the new harder toire compund in the center and softer on the edges for better handling.)

Run it harder and get it balanced. Its going to need it now and may have been part of the problem

Default Anybody else having D407F problems

Nobody but you and thousands and thousands of people who purchased early 2009 production touring bikes. Unfortunately most of us only got a "Sorry, that is a wear issue" speech and nothing else. It borders on criminal behavior. We won't forget it either. The worst thing is that you can't buy a 407 tire from anyone but a Harley franchise dealer. There are no other manufacturers making that oddball 17" tire.

Go to your dealer and complain about a front wheel shimmy, NOT the cupping. They should call MOCO and request a replacement. Had 18000 on mine and they got MOCO to switch it under warranty.
