Just traded 08 Heritage Classic for an 2010 SG and I will say the Heritage was a better ride. But you cannot beat the clean look of the SG. I would still take the SG over Heritage anyday. As for the Ultra or SG. You may be best to rent both and see which one your back can take. That could be an costly mistake.

I have a 2009 SG and my friernd has a 2009 Ultra. We went out all day yesterday and switched for the afternoon. I had my wife with me. There is no comparison between the two. The Ultra is just that smooth. My wife was asking what we need to do to get that ride. Make sure you spend some time on both before you buy. I prefer the SG for the type of riding I do, but my back disagrees with me. I am looking into better shocks but need some coin first....

I understand the tranny was changed in the 2010's - helical 5th gear - 2009's have the cush drive. (IDS).

You want a sleek lookin low rider bagger, get the street glide. You want a station wagon, get the Ultra I looked at and rode both and chose the SG. I have back issues and the SG is fine by me. I have never needed a trunk for my junk.

I wont be able to ride either as here in Australia we have very few demos, especially baggers,so will just have to make an informed decision.

How do you detach the rear tour pack off the back of the Ultra with the wiring in place? If its easy enough to do might just go the Ultra and remove the tourpack when required.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers.

When you grow up you get an Ultra. Might as well go ahead and do it.
