Default 09 SG High Idle / Sticking Throttle? Help

Was on an open highway riding in 6th for about 40 min when I was coming to a stop and realized my bike was Idling at about 1900 rpms. I sat for about 15 seconds revving it a few times and it wouldnt drop.

When I rolled the throttle closed "just a tiny bit" it would drop down to 1000.

It did this all the way home which was about another 100 miles. I tried holding the throttle forward turning the Parade Mode on and off and that didnt help either.

Now its idling at about 1500 and will only drop to 1000 if i roll it closed.

When I say roll it closed Im not talking about how you do to turn parade mode on and off im talking just a tiny bit of pressure forward.

Any Ideas?

Loosen the throttle housing and back it out away from the bar just a little then tighten it up, see if it frees up. I had that happen when I changed grips

Sounded like a good idea considering I recently adjusted the grips for my height. Went out and tried it and it Didnt solve my problem?????

Going to the Dealer next weekend for my first 1000 service I will let them check it out I guess?

Ya let them fix it, It should snap back to idle something must be binding it a little. There is a little geared TBW sensor in the end of the bar. I had mine on to far and made it do what you describe.

turn your bike off and on 3 times it will reset itself. It has happened to me plenty of times. If by chance you shut it off before the rpm's totally dropped it will remember the last rpm and that is what you will idel at.

Picked up a 2010 SG mid August.
The senior mechanic that went over the bike explained that some folks will roll the throttle a bit when killing the engine or when starting. He went on further to explain that this re-calibrates idle speed and the new idle setting for the throttle is "learned". He said that he thought the issue was corrected in 10, but just in case, "don't utilize any throttle" when starting or killing the engine.
He explained that I would need a trip to the dealer to re-establish idle speed, or re-calibrate the throttle.

Default Thanks

I really appreciate your comments on the idle problems I had on my 09 Road Glide.

The info answers my problem exactly and I'll mention it to my stealership.

I had geated grips put on when I bought the bike. I only noticed it near the end of the season. I ride in the cold and it hasn't happened lately. Maybe they caused a problem when they put on the new grips...
