Default New Ultra....maybe

Hi All,

As hard as I've tried, I have not been able to completly bond with my '05 Heritage. With over 43 years of riding and ten bikes, five of them Harleys, you'd think I'd have a pretty good idea of what works best for me. Now that I'm in my 60's, I may only have a few years left to enjoy riding. The Geezer Glide has been calling. Any of you that have read my motorcycle memories on my web site, may remember that when I went to purchace my current scoot, it was going to be a Road King. There was a mix up, and it turned out it was a RK from the rental fleet. I ended up with the Heritage, a real looker, but not a perfect touring bike. I've never been completly happy.

Just got a call from a dealer in the Phoenix area that a new '05 Ultra Glide in Vivid Black came in, and I can get if for MSRP. I put a money hold on it and will ride down there this Friday for a test ride and possible negotiations. Will keep you all posted on what happens after that. Any guesses as to what's gonna happen after I ride that Ultra? Just had to share with my forum family....

From what you've said, my guess is the Heritage is history! Important thing is that you are riding and enjoying life.

Dick,

My guess is you will get the Ultra. I have ridden my wife's Heritage some, and I am much happier with my Classic. In fact, I'm happier with my Classic than with the Roadking it replaced.

I didn't realize you were in to 60's. You sure don't look it, and your wife doesn't look old enough to be married to someone in their 60's. My guess is you have several good years of riding left.

Keep us informed as to your decision, and if there is a new addition to the family, post pictures.

Regards,

Bill

I,m in my early 50,s and ride an 03 Classic. My wife and I like trips and ride two up most all the time. I keep thinking that I would like a Heritage for a second bike when riding by myself or short rides. My problem is I think I would end up jumping on the Classic anyway. My guess is that if you ride that Ultra you will be bringing it home smiling all the way.

Hello Ultra!

Clear a spot in the garage, because once you ride it, you will buy it. It happened to me, and my 01 is the best bike I have ever had. I ride other HD's that belong to buddies, but I'm always happy to be back on my Ultra.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the kind words. Nancy is filling out papers as we speak for her "medi-care beni's" she is finally eligible for. Enjoyed meeting you and yours in Laughlin. It was quite an experience for us. We stayed off Casino Blvd. during the real busy times, but did get out early for a putt a few times before the crazies got up. Let's do it again next year!

I looked at all the touring bikes plus everything else. Bought the Ultra and I know I made the right decision. Just hit the 6000km mark today on it. It is an 05 I picked up in December.

You might as well get the heritage paperwork and bring it with you when you test ride the Ultra. You will not want it anymore after you ride that bagger. I was riding a softail custom and my buddy ways "Take my RK for a ride"...so I did. Then three weeks later another friend says "take my Ultra for a ride"...so I did....now I have a 2004 Ultra CLassic in Vivid Black in my garage and the softail has a new owner. The decision was easy for me as I just loved the way it rode and all the storage room I have now.

Good luck in your quest and ride on.
