Default heat wrap?

has anybody ever used the heat wrap on their true dual headers then put the chrome heat sheilds back on? would it help push the heat out of the mufflers or would it just be a waste of time? just wonderin i think it would look kinda cool if it would work...

Default RE: heat wrap?

Heat tape will help keep the heat in the pipe, as it is an insulator, and potentially increase the exhaust velocity by reducing the radiated heat and keeping more energy inside the pipe. This is one of the reasons for heat tape or ceramic coatings. As far as how much it will reduce the radiated heat, or what complications might ensue if you don't have a free flowing pipe, I have no answers as I have no personal experience. However, this is on my list of mods when I get to the engine work, so I'd be interested in any anecdotal observations you may have if you try it.

Enjoy the ride.
