I have a MAGURA hydraulic clutch on my bike, installed in 12/05 and it has never given me a problem

It came from the Drag Specialties catalog

Magura is a German company that has been making this stuff forever

I'm also looking for the definitive answer for 08 and up Ultras w/ the hyd clutch. My dealer' service mgr put on a hyd clutch for the original owner of my 08, here's what the two configurations are (he used a VRod clutch perch and I assume switch)

1. With no wiring changes, the motor starts only in neutral, clutch in or out.
No 6th gear lite
Cruise control is inop
Red "key" light stays off (no error code)

2. Dealer solution: Ground Blk/Red wire to Blk, bike still starts only in neutral
6th gear lite works OK
Cruise works OK
Red "Key" lite comes on the first time you select 6th gear and stays on continuously until error is cleared

So what is the "Real" solution? I can live with the starting only in neutral, but I would like to get rid of that red Key light. Thanks for any help!

Have a hyd clutch on my SEUC and as to the pull, the pull on the cable clutch on my 09 Ultra was less than the hyd clutch. If I had the choice, think I'd sooner have the cable.

The aftermarket hydraulic on my bike takes zero effort. People who try it are amazed by the lack of effort needed to pull the lever.

Of course, the bigger question is: did you find the change to hydraulic worthwhile?

Thanks

I knew I would like it before I did it since I had a hydraulic clutch on my 02 Ultra. Even with the reduced effort clutches on the new bike I still prefer Hydraulic.
On the clutch switch on 08's the CVO and the regular Ultra are the same.

I run a VPC and a hydraulic clutch. I added the VPC first and in my opinion (depending on how you drive) just the VPC will not help you and may make the situation worse. For example if you are getting on it off the line when you pull the clutch for second it will be a unexpected hard pull. With the hydraulic clutch and the vpc i can clutch with my pinkie finger while cruising and not much difference when getting on it. I will say the hydraulic clutch eases the holding of the clutch at a light. Once it is pulled the required pressure to hold it there is dramatically different than the stock setup.

Just to close the loop, the N.C. switch 71699-07 did the trick on my 08 Ultra with the hyd clutch. Now everything is normal again, no red key lite, 6 lite woorks good, bike starts in gear w/ clutch in, cruise works as normal. Thanks to all that went before!!

Smile 71699-07 Hydraulic clutch switch

Hello All,

I will be installing this switch 71699-07 in my 2013 Streetglide that I just put a hydraulic clutch on. When I put the stage 4 kit in, it came with a stiffer clutch spring and I had a sreamin' eagle variable pressure clutch 37000121. The hydraulic clutch made it a little easier. I just about have a CVO, but with all the stuff I want on it.

Here are the part number for the clutch I had put in. I also did braided lines for brake and clutch

+1, it's so easy to pull it feels like the cable is broken. VPC is an easier install and less expensive than hydraulic.

Because I didn't want a chrome master cylinder I went into the V-Rod catalog and ordered a black master cylinder (it's the same size, 11/16) All bolted up great. If anyone is interested I can provide all the part numbers.
Now, this is important, if you do this there is one more thing you have to do. There is a clutch lock out switch in your left switch housing (this prevents you from starting the bike while it is in gear) You need to change out the switch because it is a normally closed switch on the clutch cabled bikes and a normally open switch on the hyd. clutch bikes. If you don't your bike will only be able to start while in nuetral and not in gear while the clutch is pulled in. What also happens if you don't change this switch out is your security (key) light will go on while riding and your 6 gear light will not function.
I can't say enough about how better this bike now shift's. Way better! The only complaints I've heard from people is that the hyd system is alittle more "abrupt" then the cable but it doesn't take long to get used to. If i can answer any question's for anyone plz shout my way. Rich
Does MoCo have the transmission end cover part available in black?
