I had something like that happen in the early 80's. Slept up stairs and used a box fan in the window to pull cooler air in and up from the lower level. My petcock failed and dumped the fuel on the garage floor. I was higher than a kite in the morning and crawled outside on my hands and knees. it took 2 days to get the gas smell out of the house.
