03 Ultra Classic (What is the best OIL Filter Drip tray?)
Last time I changed my oil filter it was a mess. I saw a site somwhere on how to make a drip tray from a plastic bottle but can not find it?
Also I see that there are a few trays available online, so who makes the best one and who has the best price? Can I change my oil filter with my lowers on the bike?
TIA,
JOHN

i havn't changed the oil on my bike yet but i had a similar problem with my riding mower. just take most any kind of plastic bottle and cut it so you can slip it under the filter to catch the oil and let the oil drain off into a coffee can or something

unfold the oil filter cardboard box (cut the folding tabs off) and bend a slight radius into it and use it for a funnel that goes underneath your oil filter out to your drain pan. loosen your oil filter and let the oil drain down the cardboard funnel into your oil pan. i had used the 2 litre method in the past but i think this way is alot easier..

ANOTHER IDEA TO MINIMIZE OIL DROPPING IS TO GET A 2X4 BLOCK OF WOOD TO SIT THE KICKSTAND ON IF YOU DONT HAVE A CENTER STAND, AND YES YOU CAN CHANGE IT WITHOUT TAKING OFF THE LOWERS. YOU SHOULD ALSO GET THE PLASTIC WRENCH GRIP FOR THE FILTER. TAKES ALL THE WORK OUT.

I also cut a plastic bottle, slides under the filter without leaking. I slightly loosen the filter before I start, (so I can hand remove later)slide the plastic under the filter, then poke a hole in the lower end of the filter let most of the oil drain for a few minutes then hand remove the filter slowly without even a drop spilling on anything.
I use the K&N filter with the large 1" nut welded on the end, what a breeze to change. The K&N is chrome, made for the HD and is designed to be used especially with synthetic oil.

Don't laugh too hard, but I fashioned a drip trough from aluminum foil a couple of times.........works in a pinch and is disposable! And you can slip it under the filter before you begin removal.
