Me too confused
OK Drive components service manual 6.3 figure 6-9 showes the compensating sprocket so behind the rotor in front of the primary chaincase housing is the stator. If correct thats what info I need to remove and replace the stator.

Yes thank you , so why do people say stator instead of alternator the section were the voltage regulator shows the stator connector. so from the voltage regulator and the alternator the stator is in between them. Thanks again. OK now i got it Thanks DAWG

For those who have a Touring MY 2010 the alternator drawings can be found:
_ figure 7-82 page 7-63 where you see the "Rotor/Spring Cover Assembly" (sm03513)
_ figure 7-84 page 7-64 where the stator is sketched (sm03469)
This is a service free alternator (has no brushes) as long as the rotor (field magnets) is well installed
