Tried to use my new aluminum Craftsman lift last night without much success. If I place the lift directly in front of the cross member the bike is too unstable due to the uneven weight distribution. I then tried placing the rear pad of the lift inside the cross member but it is too wide and will not sit flat. Any suggestions? My bike is an '06 Ultra Classic. Thank you!

Smitty,

I have an 06 Ultra, and my yellow craftsman fits fine. I place the rear pad in the crossmember, and up she goes. Fron tire comes off first, but once the rear gets up, she is perfectly balanced. Try it again...it's gotta fit!!

Just tried again and it definately doesn't fit inside the cross member. Just to be sure I even tried putting one of the adaptor/extension bars, which are the same width, inside the cross member and got the same result. I don't know why the cross member for the frame would be a different width than yours since they're the same year Ultra. Any ideas?

Smitty,
Put your rear pad where Q shows it, and you will not have a problem. Seems kinda shaky at first, but it works great. Like they also said, watch that release...you HAVE to feather the handle, or she will drop like a rock!!

So I fully understand, the pad does not actually fit up inside the the curved channel correct? I just tried it again and the way the cross member curves in on both sides at the middle it will not allow the pad to fit flush inside it. The cross member is sitting on the lift and not the actual frame unlike the front where the frame is flush against the lift. If that's how everyones is then I'm doing it correctly.

Smitty, I have the yellow Sears and a 06 Road King. So you are saying that the rear most pad of the lift goes under the cross member but does not actually fit into it, correct? Mine, as yours, will not fit inside the cross member. I tried putting the pad just forward of the member but then the front end comes up before the the rear. Seems like what we really need is an adapter to fit inside the cross member.

Thats correct! It will not fit inside the cross member. I've tried every way possible but the lift pad is too wide. I dont understand how others with this same lift work. I've already returned the lift to Sears and will be purchasing one from J&S instead. It is more expensive but their pad widths are smaller, which will fit inside the cross member.
