Are all these reported failures on the same kind of rim?
Anybody?

Hard to see how just replacing the bearings could fix allignment issue. If there is a problem with the bore in the wheel, the only fix would be a new wheel. I guess you could try to ream it, but the machinist would charge more than a new wheel. I think if that is in fact the issue, you need to record when the new bearing is replaced and plan on watching it to see if it also fails. There is one other possible issue not mentioned. That is the inner bushing. When the axle is tightened, the inner races should be tight to the bushings, in effect one unit. The outer races or race must have room to align with the inners. In the case where side torque is applied to a ball bearing, failure is pretty much assured. I have seen that in large blowers when a crew did not place the retaining ring for the housing in the expansion groove. Failure pattern will show uneven wear on inner and outer race to one side mostly. In blowers, tis is often due to thermal expansion when a shaft excedes 2 ft. and temp. varies.

It works great to remove the bearing, that's what I've been using.

Just remember when pressing the new bearing in to use a tool, sleeve, etc. that contacts only the outer race of the bearing and never pound them in with a hammer.
