I wouldn't have a T-header without shields unless you're going to wrap the head pipes. The quality leaves something to be desired, so the shields will look good longer than bare pipes. They sure sound good, I miss mine...

I've just recently installed three set's of Thunderheaders on three Dressers. I was extremelly impressed with the fit and finish of all three. I have heard that the quality has gotten alot better then the older stuff and it proved correct. Two set's were ceramic black with no shields, after about two thousand miles they did start to discolor some. And they are HOT, very much so. The third set I sent to JetHot coating and had the ceramic coating removed and had JetHot install there black coating and it was night and day. Alot better finish (more of a satin black) and they ran much cooler, even with no shields. Mainly because they also coat the inside of the pipe.
I myself think the Thunderheaders look alot better without the shields, so if i was going to install them on my own bike, I'd fork up the extra coin and have the sent out and ceramic coated properly...........Rich

I ran that exact pipe on my 05 RG and after about a year I put heat shields on and what a relief it was. The pipe gets very hot without heatshields.

if you don't get the heat shields there is a very distinct possibility that your pants will start smoking and get extremely warm. Don't ask me how I know.

Yep, burnt holes in a pair of pants with TH and no heat shields. I have actually never seen the balck with heat shields. Can't do chrome without on TC. They blue to quickly. Anyone got a pic of black with heat shields?

Wrappping the pipe keeps the heat in too much and will probably end up in a crack.

I had them on my '07 NT, and yes, they are extremely hot. No smoking pant legs, but I KNOW it had to be close on many occassions. (I was too cheap to pay the asking price for the heat sheilds) Oh yeah, the black coating that comes from Thunderheader sucked as it discolored and became powdery after a short amount of time. They may have improved on it since I purchased mine in '07, but I've yet to hear anything saying otherwise. As far as the SOUND, I've not heard another exhaust that sounds as BADASS as a Thunderheader. They sound awesome!! Opinions may vary, but I'll stand by my opinion 100%.
