Do Grips from before 08 work on an 08 touring bike?
I just joined the touring bike club yesterday and bought an 08 Street Glide that has stock grips on it. I have a set of fancy chrome ones that used to be on my 05 Softail just sitting in the garage. Will the older grips fit on my 08 that does not have a throttle cable? If so, are there any tricks to installing these grips?
Unfortunately grips from an older model bike will not fit the 08 and newer Touring models because in 08 HD switched to a "throttle by wire" system and did away with the throttle and idle cables used in the previous year Touring models.
Older style grips will work if you cut the old grip off the plastic sleeve on the TBW. Kind of a pain in the a$$ but if you have a set of grips you like it would be worth it.

I stand corrected, yes I guess with modifications and probably only the right grip.

I just went from 08 to my 2000. The plastic sleeves actually peeled/cracked right out using needle nose pliers. A little grip adhesive and good to go. The grips will fit either way, it just takes a little effort to seperate the grip from the sleeve. I found it best to work the sleeve from the inside rather than trying to peel the grip off, destroying the sleep and not the grip itself. Took me 45 minutes to swap the sleeves. Basically, the grips are the same but the sleeves are different.
