slip ons vs true duals
Im struggling with V/H true duals vs just the slip ons along with stage one kit on my 06 Road glide. Opinoins please on the pros and cons of changing out the pipes vs just some slip ons? I realize i get rid of the crossover but does that mean more power? louder? less heat on the right side? Why do I want the true duals? I'm looking for that low end torque and nice deep sound thats not obnoxious, and I want to go from 70 to 90 right NOW to pass. I've read some of the treads about this and it has been helpful. Just want some more viewpoints. Anyone? BTW what is a "2 into 1" system?

RE: slip ons vs true duals
True Duals again! Swing for the fence and go for a fat, solid, CLAMP free system (HARD KROME). Great power, less heat and cool looking. 2 into 1 system will give you all the heat on the right side with a bulky clamp on muffler, losing the balanced look on a bagger and I would debate any added performance value. Are ya gonna ride it or race it? Stock headers and slip-ons, just plain SUCK![:'(]

RE: slip ons vs true duals
I have the VH true duals, love em, the sound is great. And you can get plenty of toque out of them if you go up to 95", But the Horse power will suffer. With the true duals I have its like blowing threw a straw. I am putting back on my factory pipes and going with the Rush mufflers. My tuner ran both and my bike perform better with the original cross over pipes and after market mufflers. Will proberly be selling the VH pipes, they are only four months old with about 1600 miles on them.

Callieblue is correct. The stock headers do offer more torque than true dual headers, especially in engines less than 95". Some tuners say to leave the stock headers on unless you get into higher lift cams, too. My main reason for going with the V&H true dual headers was the heat on the right leg issue. The torque I allegedly lose doesn't matter. My bike has the Big Bore Stage II, 204 cams and the HD race fueler. Runs great and I have lots of passing ability when I want it.
If the right leg heat isn't an issue for you, go with the stock headers, add 203 or 204 cams, Stage I aircleaner and download and your choice of mufflers. You'll have lots of passing power.......this combo isn't dramatically expensive.....not cheap, but offers a lot of bang for the buck.

RE: slip ons vs true duals
I just installed V&H true duals and slash cut mufflers last week, along with PCIII and SE Air Cleaner. I just went on a 100 mile run yesterday with 2 up and I didn't really notice any significant change in torque, though the engine seems to breath easier and seems to be better throttle response.
What I like is the look and the sound. Distinct stereo sound from the pipes, and gets rid of them ugly stock head pipes. I was surprised at the tiny amount of baffle in the V&H mufflers, so it is a bit on the loud side but it sounds great.
The install went relatively easy and though I purchased new gaskets just in case, I ended up not having to use them. The V&H instructions are good, but one thing they didn't say was that to get the old head opipes off you need to loosen off and drop down the right side rear footboard bracket.
Bottom line is if you want look and sound, go for the trues. If you are uncertain about the torq and don't mind the stock headers, just do the muffs.
Hope this helps.

RE: slip ons vs true duals
Thanks Cowboy. I'm taking your advice. I've decided to keep the stock pipes and install the slip ons. I heard some Rush pipes the other day and they sound good. Alot like the screaming eagle to me. I really havent decided whether I will go with V/H, rush, rhinehart, or something else. I'm trying to keep it from drowneding out my stereo. That would be too loud. Still debating which pipes, but the advice im getting helped me to decide against the true duals, for now anyway.
