Default Problems with Premium Tour Pak Hinges?

Has anyone had a problem with the painting cracking after installing the Premium Tour Pak hinges? I have them on my ultra & no problems;however I have 2 friends whose paint is cracking. It is the hinge located closet to the passenger seat & the paint is cracking on the top of the tour pak lid. If you look at the top of that hinge that is where it is cracking. I think maybe someone has tightened the screws too tight. That's JMHO. Let me know if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks.

What year bikes are the ones with the cracked paint and which version of the tour pak hinge did they install, if you know? I ask because HD issued the original version, but it was for only '06 and newer tour paks, then released a newer version ("-08A suffix) for those as well as the older tour paks and chopped tour paks. Perhaps the ones with paint cracking used the original version hinges on pre-'06 tour paks?

I have a feeling that since these Premium hinges have no flex in them, that someone being careless when opening the lid, and just letting it fall open, would invite that result? Puts a lot of stress on the surrounding ABS/Fiberglass.
It's probably one reason why HD hasn't changed the old hinge design for years. It flexes just enough.
Just a guess?

No problems here. Perhaps too tight, or somebody flung it open without trying to stop it?

Thanks for the replies. Didn't think about opening the tour pak lid carelessly as a cause. Like I said I haven't had any problems with mine and was just wondering so I could let them know if a problem did exist.

No problems but I just put em on a week ago(09). Ya think the new screws could be tightened more than the original rivets in the original hinges?
