Tranny oil cap location..?
Need to check level.....Location of transmission cap on 03 Road King .....?
I'm a new owner of a 2003 Road king Classic, I have ordered a service manual but don't have it yet. I'm fair as a mechanic and I check my oil everyday but unsure where my tranny cap is and I think I need a little trans oil as I'm getting a little more noise when shifting.....Is the cap for tran on 'right side' and hex shape..? How far back...? Thanks for any help...

There are pics in this thread that show where it is. It's right next to the engine oil dipstick. Takes a 3/8" allen wrench. If not remembering wrong you check it with the bike standing straight up not on the jiffy.

Found it...on my 03 RK it's just a little farther foward.....blends in with the chrome cover....Now I'm really confused about checking 'screwed in' or what the level says after 'unscrewing'...?
When I unscrewed it, the level was right in the middle between 'add and full' and very clean looking (clear).
Did not add any at this point......

what the previous poster mentioned is that in order to check the trans oil, don't screw the dipstick in, just pull it out, wipe the dipstick rod, and then set it back in the hole without screwing it in, that will give you the proper reading. after you verify that it's at the correct level, screw it back in and ride. i use royal purple 75-140 synthetic in the trans and it made a huge difference, no trans noise, and shifts very smooth.

Don't mean to stir a panic here but I have read where the transmission dipstick will vibrate up against a lip down in the trans and break off leading to potentially catastrophic damage. One guy on the forum actually had his back wheel lock at speed and nearly crashed. You can see if yours is affected by looking down in trans to see if a half-moon "lip" sticks out towards the bottom of the dipstick tube and also if there are rub marks on the stick itself from banging against this lip.
Mine was, and the simple solution was to saw the dipstick off so that just the cap remains and to purchase a separate dipstick for checking fluid.
