Default Whine after 1000 mile check

I picked my SG after the 1000 mile check up today and I've noticed an increase in drivetrain noise (whine) during decel after driving 20 miles in 90 deg heat. They changed all the fluids to Syn3. I called the dealer and they told me it will be noisier, but I'm concerned it may be excessive. What's the experience out there? Should I be concerned?

With out hearing it, my first guess would be they tightened the primary chain and that is where the whine is coming from. A primary chain that is to tight will whine.

A tight belt will sometimes give a bit of a whine. Can you tell where it is coming from? Left rear might be the belt.

Bill

Too funny. A Harley dealer giving something away.

Are you sure it's coming from the motor? Like a couple others mentioned, I'd be leaning towards the primary chain or drive belt.

I heard this same distinct whine before my 1000 mile check, though I had about 1500 on it at the time cause the dealer was backed up about 3 weeks. It was a 85-90 deg day and it was near the end of a 50 mile run. Sounded alot like a rear end howl in a truck or a car, and only noticed it on decel. Got home and checked oil, found it was down half a quart so I topped it off. I haven't heard it since but it hasn't been all that hot either and I had Syn3 put in on the 1000 mile.

06 SG was stock when I heard this noise, and I just installed V&H true duals and slash cut mufflers. It's a bit louder than I thought it would be so I don't know if I'll hear this howl even if it occurs again.

As previously stated, a tight drive belt will give a whining noise and a loose belt will give a similar noise. I check my belt tension every time the dealer does anything to the rear wheel.
