As others have mentioned, but don't get caught up in the auction frenzy considering the economy has generated lots of low priced private seller used bikes. I would have someone watching the exhaust carefully when the bike is started, look for any oil smoke. One common thing about many retired cop bikes is that they often have tons of high heat idling time doing radar duty, slow speed putting, etc and that takes a toll sometimes. I wouldn't be afraid to buy one, but it'd have to be a really good price.

It's a matter of personal preference I suppose. I wouldn't buy a police bike as my primary ride, but if I found a clean, well maintained bike for a very reasonable price I'd consider buying one as a second or third bike. I would do so with the understanding that I would probably need to invest some time and money in to it.

Try Mike Bruno HD In Slidell, La. They have some New Orleans PD Road Kings coming off lease. They are 2007s most with 10K or less, 103 motor, ABS. They are selling for 11K - 13K.

Any way to get a tech to inspect them before the auction? Any access to the maintenance records??
