Default Need info on SG Tribar/Fender Light

Got a little project going here. Need to get myself a light to go in the stock SG rear fascia. Looking for one that is tinted and works as a running light as well as brake light. The only one I can find from HD that does all this fits '10 models only. Could be done with my 09 but looking to avoid splicing, etc.

Is there an upgrade out there y'all are using? Something brighter? Uber cool that I aint seen yet?

Thx guys.

Are you sure about that? I bought one for my girl's new '09 SG and all is well. Check the last two digits on the part number you're looking at, does it say "-09" ?

Splicing? I get ya. How about this? I took a set of OE tail lights from a Road King/Electra Glide Standard which has the tag light & license plate below the turn signal bars so I could get rid of the "above" (Ultra style) plate mounting. My bike has the rear (Ultra) fender tip lamp and I just learned last night that the plug for the LED tag light plugs into the same port as my stock fender tip lamp. Hmm, splice? Not sure yet because Harley just came out with running/brake light conversion for the Ultra style fender tip lamp. Since the tag light and the brake lights are on two different circuits, I'm hoping the fender tip light gets plugged in via some other means. Point is, double check that first. Buy a Service Manual and perhaps a Parts Manual. I've learned about many possibilities from the two.

But check about that fitment. The '09's and the '010's are the same, should be fine.

The leds in the tri-bar lights are very weak.

The part ending in -09 did not function as a brake light. The -10 part said for 10 and newer.

Pretty sure that with no brakelight on the 10 model, the wiring must be a little differnt. Service tech said the same, but i guess until i get my lazy *** on the floor i wont know.

Previous post provided the HD part no. for a run/brake alternative.

If you want to try something different, you can disassemble the SG LED assembly and change the LED's. Here's a link to what I did to mine:

Good luck with your "project."
