Default Carbed 1999 TC88 Popping through AC and Pipe.

My buddy had an issue with his bike last night. He realized he had his tank on reserve to we filled up and he flipped it to normal. About 3 miles later his bike died. We pulled over and after some failed troubleshooting attempts we discovered the fuel pump was disconnected. Not sure what happened but it was reconnected and worked fine. He goes about 10 more miles and started getting a loud pop throught the carb and pipe. We did remove the air cleaner during the troubleshooting but put it back as it should. He also pulled out the fuel fiter on the petcock.

What can cause this popping.

I may be wrong but I do not think that an EFI bike had a fuel petcock, only the carbed ones. Either the fuel is restricted i.e. to lean or there is an air leak in the intake manifold.

I agree with rodeking.......As far as the popping either the carb is out of adjustment causing the popping or there is a fuel restiction.....also a intake leak would cause the same thing.

But it could be bad gas causing some of it.....but i think there is some trash in the float bowl.

No offense taken but I have never seen a 99 carbed HD with a "fuel pump". The only HD I have ever owned with fuel pumps have been EFI.
