Installed the oil temp gauge

Installed the oil temp gauge
I just installed the oil temp gauge to replace the air temp in my Ultra. I guess it's not what I expected. Maybe my gauge is faulty? It literally takes several miles of riding to even get the gauge to move. Then if I go say 20 miles it will slowly climb up to 170. It hit 180 the other day in 80 degree weather running 65mph. I just can't believe it takes that long to get any oil temperature. Anyone else have the same situation?

RE: Installed the oil temp gauge
I ignored the install directions and placed the sensor directly in the oil pan. Just had to buy a brass bushing. Mine take a qhile to show temp regardless of ambient. I ride 15 miles to work in 40 degrees and it begins to show maybe 140. I ride home in 75 degress and it shows 140-150.
Normal cruising temp at 65 mph no load is 190.
If you followed the MOCO instructions and cut the hose using their tee you would get slightly different results. Probably a little higher depending on your tune.

I got my gauge from HERE :http://www.wallyscycleworld.com/virtualshop/OT.asp The sending unit plugs right into the oil pan. I guess mines acting similiar to yours?

RE: Installed the oil temp gauge
Think about it. If its 40* outside like Zubaugh is riding in, the oil is 40*...how long do you think its going to take to heat up all the oil in the pan to 100* where the guage will first start showing??
When its hot outside, it takes hardly any time for the guage to start climbing...but when I commute home from work in the mornings and the temps are below 60*, it takes ten miles before I see the guage move.
