Bought my first one about 50 miles from home. Rode the long way home, about 100 miles. Doesn't sound like much but it was in February and was 27 degrees. I LOVED every minute of it. Stopped a couple of times for coffee. My a$$ was killing me on the stock seat but wouldn't trade it for a thing. Heck, make it an adventure. Rent a Motel half way home, something fun.
If you simply must haul it, do what you need to do to use the trailer. I wouldn't haul it in my truck unless I absolutely had to.

when I bought my 06 StreetGlide I put mine on the back of a toyota tundra it was a 200 mile ride give or take I could really cared less what anyone said I picked it up with one of my friends drove home in the nice cold a/c cab we talked crap and it was a perfect drive. We got it down in my house when we returned and it was very easy with my brothers ramps for his gixxer 1000..

Just got in...
I decided to take the trailer ...
Went out and put it in the garage and made up some flat reanforcement plates for the bed of the trailer and installed 4 , 5,000 lb. tie down swivals //
I figured it would give me a hard time espesialy when I,m in a hurry ...
Trying to get a few hrs sleep . 5 am will come early for me ..AARRGGHH ..
Absalutly would drive it home if I had the choice .
Dont worry she will be ridden and pampered .. LOLL.........
i,L GET pics asap... I,ll be home late tommmorow......
Thanks for the compliments.....Ride safe ....
