High blood pressure and noise

130/85 is not considered hypertension. I would never take meds with that BP. 165/85 is a different story. Although you need to be taking your BP at rest (3-5 min). Also, taking your BP with anticipation of it being high can make it even higher. Read up on something similar called white coat syndrome. You need to be totally relaxed when you come in and take the measurement.

My doc was recommending BP meds because my BP was up over 140/80. I will tell you, for anybody out there that has mild hypertension you can get it down many ways besides taking bp meds. I can easily get it down with exercise, breathing and diet. I am familiar with white coat hypertension and it is real. I find this hypertension and noise thing to be very interesting.
I will try using ear plugs and check my bp again. It will be several days because as Stevie Ray Vaughn sang, "It's Floodin Down in Texas". T.

Anything that stimulates your autonomic nervous system (sympathetic, particularly), such as noise, will and does increase your BP, Pulse and Resp rate. I would expect your findings to be normal. Now, on the other hand, if your BP was up while at total rest then you'd worry. While exercising and doing strenuous things, the BP will go up. "Don't worry, Be happy". Your Dr is FOS to suggest BP meds at the BP you stated.
