They are both great bikes. Why not rent both and decide from there? Asking this board for advice without bias is like going to a Christian Church and asking which religion is right.

I just switched from a 2008 Street Glide to a 2009 Road King. I love my Road King. I couldn't get over the fact that I always had a fairing, which was great for long trips, but not so great for just cruising around town.

With the Road King, I can take of the wind shield and I'm right in the wind, or put it on and I'm not.

I thought I'd miss the radio, but I honestly don't.

I also think the Road King handles better, as it feels lighter up front. Of course, some of this feeling could be from the change of frames between '08 and '09.

I hope this helps - at least its an opinion from a fairing bike to a non-fairing.

If you like riding in the wind or the stripped down look for around town cruising, then the flexibility of the Road King with the quick detachable windshield is the way to go (my choice).
If ya gotta have tunes and cruise long hiway distances, then I go with a Road Glide.
A good suggestion is to take both out before you drop the big coin.

Are you leaning more towards one than the other? If so, why? How did you compare them after the test drive? Like stated above, Road Kings are great for local cruising and occasional touring. Road Glides are really designed for some serious touring. Not that I don't have friends who tour the hell out of some Road Kings (which I do) but none will argue that their bikes are easier on the body after an all day trip. LOL/. Road Kings have that classic (timeless) look about them and you can never go wrong with buying one. Road Glides have that unique fixed fairing that seem to polarize people's opinion. I, personally, really dig the look of a sleek Road Glide.

I got 2006 police Road King and I installed aftermarket stereo with chrome speakers. Looks great, sounds good. Very good in traffic.

I've got a RK, but would seriously consider a Road Glide if I was shopping today. I'm one of those who thinks the RG is a great looking scoot. I like the way the fixed fairing looks and rides, although I haven't spent any long distances on it.

On the other hand, I love that I can strip my RK down to bare handlebars. I'm considering adding an aftermarket quick detach fairing. I think that would be just about the ultimate... fairing, windshield, or bare bars, whatever suits your mood that day.

I like the convertibility of the Road King. Windshield on when I need the wind protection, windshielf off when I'm just cruising around town. In warm weather I'll leave it on for highway trips, then once on the back roads pop it off and bungee it behind me.

The flexibility of the king is hard to go past. Being able to loose the fairing / screen in front of you and go naked is great thing.

You get better sounding tunes with a good set of ear buds anyhow.
