Default Nuvi 550

GREETINGS, rhbuilds
I HAVE THE GARMIN NUVI 550, I WORKS VERY GOOD, NO MUSIC PLAYER, BUT VERY GOOD FUNCTION, SAME MAPS AS THE HARLEY GARMAN UNITS, NO HARLEY DEALERS PROGRAMED IN IT BUT YOU CAN PUT THEM IN. THE 550 IS TESTED TO FUNCTION UNDER WATER FOR 30 MINUTES, IT IS ALSO A NICE SIZE FOR LIMITED SPACE.

I've had a Garmin Zumo 550 for about six months now and really like it. I haven't used a Tom Tom but here are some of the positives about the Zumo:

1. Very intuitive to use. The basic function of mapping a destination or finding a POI is easy even for this knuckle dragger.

2. Vehicle cradle with suction cup makes it a versatile set up.

3. Map Source, included with the Zumo, is handy for creating a custom tour on the computer and then transferring it to the GPS. Just take the Zumo off Auto Recalculate when you're following a route you've developed.

4. The Zumo Forum is a wealth of information.

5. MP3 player stores my favorite tunes and mutes when the GPS makes an announcement.

Negatives:

1. It can easily become a distraction with its side functions like compass, elevation, trip data, etc. but I'm sure the Tom Tom has that negative also.

2. It can contribute to theft paranoia but can be easily removed and locked in the tourpak.

I have both and the Garmin by far does and has alot more options than the TomTom in my opinion. It's well worth the extra money.

We had a touring holiday in June in Europe, in a group with a wide variety of gps units amongst us. We have an original TomTom Rider and gave up travelling with the Garmins, because they seemed to go off in strange directions! We reckon we got lost less often.

I cannot imagine choosing a gps unit because it has a better radio or makes better coffee....

Smile Bluetooth

Not sure if the Tom Tom hase Bluetooth or not but both the Zumo 550 and the new 660 do. Just in case you want to make a phone call or go wireless on the helmet.

MP3's are great when you out of your radio range.

I have the 550 and like it a lot, had a service issue with it and Garmin was very quick to resolve everything to my satisfaction.

My experience with Tom Tom previously was the routing algorithm was not as good and the interface more difficult. Never have specifically used the Tom Tom rider.
