As many have said, the first change is the most critical. I would change as soon as possible, but 2 - 3 hundred miles over should be OK.

Did my 1,000 Mile Service at 500+ Miles get the initial stuff out Went with Dino change through the Dealer .. at 2K Did my Own Changing and switched to Amsoil...

Do it early. I can't ever seem to go to the mileage before a service. Do mine 100 miles or so early. I'm really **** about it, and really want this bike to last me as long as it possibly can. I agree with running the synthetic oil too. I didn't do it till 5000 miles, and regret not doing it earlier. How can it be a bad thing?

Read your owners manual.........you are good up to 3000 miles on your first service

Exactly....All of these posts talking about a "a bunch of metal" in the oil are a bunch of B.S.....Sure, you might have some metal in the oil on an rebuilt engine outta Joe's Machine Shop and want to change the first oil pretty early...as in a hundred miles or so..., but not with a factory fresh engine. If the oil was full of metal, you would have done plenty of damage during the first 1k miles.
