Talking 07 vs. 09 Road Glide???

O.K. boys... I have a great running 07 RG. I think I can get a great deal on an 09. Six gallon tank and new frame are nice... anbody make this trade and if so what are your thoughts?? What do i gain?? Thanks...

The five to six gallon tank probably wouldn't entice me to upgrade. But, I gotta say, the frame and suspension are quite nice. I can ride the twisties at almost (*almost*) the same speed I do my Beamer K1200RS. (Of course, I ride like an old man and the Beamer is pushing 600 lbs.) In fact, I haven't touched the K since buying the 2009 FLHR this March. Well, except to attach a battery tender.

I'd say do it if you have the coin.

I'd suggest you visit your local dealer and spend ~$150 (or whatever your dealer charges) and rent a 2009 FLTR for a day.

Then you'll know whether or not it's worth the $ to you to trade in.

IMO, they are completely different bikes. I rented an 08 for a day and thought it was nice, but not great. The 2009 (imo) is great.

Too each his owns butt........... you have already taken the loss and depreciation on a new bike. If it is meeting your needs...you would be crazy to trade for a new one and lose all of that depreciation again.

Calm down... enjoy your bike. Nothing is that much better that you need to take a $5-10K loss.

Big Gain - black motor and wheels instead of the silver.

Big Gain - Availability of ABS

Gain - throttle by wire

Loss - higher seat position on the '09

I went from 05 to 08, because of the ABS, 6 gallon tank and 6 speed transmission. I'm used to ABS on my beamers and am very happy that I made the upgade to the 08 when ding a lings pull out in front of you while it's raining!!!!

Wow, what responses, I went from a 01 EG standard to an 08 RG. I love my new bike but would not go for a newer one for the reasons you have stated. 5 to 6 gallon tank. Gee so you have to stop a whole 1/2 hour sooner or 30-40 miles. Big deal, frame change, I read a lot of threads about cupping tires, and wobble from the 09's. The tires are availble only from the dealer at this point. My .02 is unless you are either having issues or extremely high mileage on your ride is to keep it for another year of two.
