this was my thoughts exactly.. lower base price.. i will be tearing it all down anyways, so as long as the motor and frame are good i am golden. i am going to paint it either denim or vivid black. solid.. that is my only gripe with the road glide. i don't like the striping on any of them. the police style bags will definatly be gone..

on a side note, it doesn't take much to total out a bike. this is why a salvage title does not really bother me. i am helping my buddy rebuild his dyna that got flipped into a culvert. it would've easily been totalled had he let them. we have minimal cost in the rebuild, and in the end a better looking bike that has been gone through completely. another forum member (another site) is helping me track the VIN info so i can find out exactly what the damage was.

i will be shedding the brand new windshield and saddlebags as soon as i bring it home if anyone may be interested. just fyi

Since you work in a body shop, you should have a keen eye when it comes to looking it over. Cosmetics are nothing ~ ESPICALLY for someone with access to the resources in a body shop.

One think you might want to look very closely at is the frame. Have a real good look at all the welds around the neck and every where the tubing comes together. Look for signs if stress (cracked powder coating), and attempts to cover them with paint.

Based on the write-up, the guy seemed like a reasonably straight shooter.

I'll be eager to see how this one ends up. My gut feel is that those that recommended against buying it, will be the ones oogling it when you're done.

I'm envious. I'd love to rebuild a bike like that one. Actually, I'd love to buy a Road Glide for that money, so I could really spend on the mods.
If you've missed the threads, check out the one on Topshop extended bags. IMO a great deal, different lengths, very strong, and they come painted black (if you want) carpeted , in different lengths, with one, two or no cutouts for the exhausts, for $1,000 shipped. I wish I had the money for a set myself.
