I have changed the front pads once at about 81,000. I bought the bike with 33,000 on it. I don't think I have changed the rear pads on this bike yet, but it is time. If I would have had them when I had the rear tire off last week, I would have changed them then.
Good input... thanks all. I am very easy on my brakes but that is because I am always looking far ahead and anticipating more than in my car. Not to sound like an a**hole, but if you are wearing your breaks out quickly you might want to reassess why you are using them so often. I also rarely ride with a passenger and know that affects longevity as well.
I agree with taking a flashlight and looking at the thickness of the pads. And to make it a little simpler. If you can still see the grove dividing the pads into sections you are ok. If this groove does not appear change quickly, before you do damage to your rotors.
i had my indy check front and back at last service on my 07 e-glide, he replaced the back pads but said the fronts were good to go, the bike had close to 25000 miles on it.
Just changed out the rears on my old '95 EGC with 45K+ miles on the clock. They could have been reversed for a few more miles but I changed them anyway. Still have about 1/3 left on the original fronts. My '06 SG has about 1/3-1/2 left (both ends) with 25K miles. I use the fronts to stop at about a 90% ratio to the rears.
