Default jiffy stand woes???

When placing the bike on the jiffy stand, my 03 eg seems to move forward about two inches. I checked an 01 side by side and everything looks the same but the 01 only moves slightly when engaged. I even switched the leg stop from the 01 to the 03 and it did nothing to fix the problem. Scares my wife when it does this as it does seem to be falling. Any ideas or do all 03 models do this?

You're correct, all move some but I have never had one that moved this much. Looking down at the stand from the side it looks like it angles back to the rear much more than the 01. Even when I park it on level ground, the bike will move forward.

3 inches seems like a little too much, but if you checked it and the jiffy stand is locking properly it shouldn't be a problem. Mine moves a couple inches after the weight is placed on the stand. I always make sure the stand is fully extended before letting the weight on the stand! (As we all do) I guess some of us are always afraid the stand will fail to catch....

They all do that. No, really. They do.

Sometime when you have the bike jacked up, take the kickstand apart and see how it operates. It's scary as hell sometimes but you'll see that it's not going anywhere once it's locked in place.

(But to make sure, I make a point of holding it forward with my left foot until the full weight of the bike is on it)

When I first got my 07 Ultra and stopped for break or what ever the bike would move forward. I would automatically grab it.
Reason is:
Look at the lock mechanism (a close look) you will notice it has to hinge upward into the lock. The lock is loose fitting so it will slide in easily. Since there are 2 components working together to do 2 things. 1) the lock and 2) side stand.
If you measured it with a tape measure then it must be 3 inches but just looking at the bike when it moves might be something different.

Just a thought

It scares the hell out of me as well and I know it’s supposed to do it. I try and park on the up hill but sometimes when I can’t, I put it in gear, just makes me feel better.

It scared the hell out of me when I first got my bike so I always park it in gear which I am sure we all do.
