Keep your insect repellent in a separate ziplock freezer bag. It will contain a spill and won't melt.

Good luck,

John

DEET (N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide) WILL MELT CERTAIN PLASTICS!
It is also known to stain or completelt breakdown synthetic fibers.
Rule of thumb with DEET.
  1. Never (for prolonged periods of time) store near plastics. The containers are treated on the interior and no protection is incorporated into the dispenser design for long term "horizontal" storage. The heat in the saddle bags will also change the properties of the chemicals in the insecticide causing bulging of the container due to volatization.
  2. Synthetic fibers will be stained and degraded once they come into contact with DEET. Keep away from rain suits, bike covers and vinyl compnents.
  3. Aviod contact with gubber grip components as these can degrade as well. Wash hands before riding so that your grips dont get contaminated and start to breakdown.
Im sorry that this may be a little too late for SGNDEN but may prevent some damage to others gear and equipment. Ride safe

Different plastics will melt each other. I know this because I am an avid fisherman and the wrong plastic worms mixed in with plastic crank baits will melt them. Your lucky it did not melt you bags.

DEET is some wicked stuff. You might consider one of the lemon eucalyptus repellent sprays. I have to use that.
