Hey folks, took my 02 CVO SE RK for a little spin this afternoon to relax a bit and get some stress off,,,,, well dammit I got some stress added,,,,, thought I heard a ticking type noise going though town, figured it was just the valve train,,,, got on it a bit when I headed back home and bam ticking noise was sounding like a dry bearing,,,,,, not 100% sure but pretty sure it's in the tranny/clutch basket or possibly the starter jack shaft and bearing area,,,, as at an idle it's not making the noise or revved up at an idle no noise,,, no noise with the clutch pulled in. At lower RPM's not that bad but at accelerating up to 5th it's pretty bad sounding.
I pulled the primary inspection plates and drained the primary, oil level was correct, my HB 125 chain tensioner was correct, I had about 1/4 size of a BB piece of metal and a couple of slivers on the clutch inspection plate,,, fairly sure it's not the compensator nut loose as I just fixed that last fall and it's not making the noise at idle or with the clutch pulled in. I have noticed in my last couple of rides that it seemed to not want to shift into neutral as well as normal and when I down shifted there was a time or two it felt funny like it was in between gears, not a crisp downshift is what I'm trying to say.
Any help would be appreciated if you have heard/had a similar noise and symptoms, I'll pull the outer primary tomorrow and check further, just aggravated as hell this afternoon as lately it seems everything I own is fecking up, just tired of having to fix chit to use it and my hog is my number one stress relief and my in the wind. O-k rant over, thanks in advance for any input that might help before I really tear into the old gal.

Update
I have pulled the outer primary, compensator nut was still tight, clutch pack looks good, inner primary bearing is tight, before I pulled everthing I felt under and behind the clutch pack and I did find a problem there but not my noise problem,,,, anyone seen the drain plug do this before,,, I thought the drain plug looked funny when I pulled it last night,,,, you'd think the engineer who designed this would just use a tiny screw and red 271 loctite or something different than a twist pressure fit pin ,,,,, I know that would never come apart, this is where the very small piece I found yesterday came from. I will clean up everything in this area for now.
I will drain the tranny and inspect the oil,,, pull the speed sensor and tranny inspection plate next and have a look see, there's the same type magnetic drain plug there too,,,,,, I've had some trouble on and off with the speedo working and not working, probably some shavings in the speed sensor magnet, I hope I don't have a serious tranny problem, such as a bent fork or something or bad bearing,,,, but the list of possible noise makers is getting narrower now.

Haven't seen that before John...
You are certainly looking at everything but a tick is a real Betch to find. Can you see if our outer tranny shaft has bluing on it? Will have to remove the clutch pack to check. Don't want to bring you bad luck but if it's coming from the left side... ya know....

Well it's worst case senerio,,,, gotta pull the tranny,,,, found three pieces of either a small needle/roller bearing or a pin of some sort that were on the speed (VSS) sensor,,,, can see very slight damage on one gear (fixable), won't know the complete results till I get the tranny laid out on the table. Damn it may have to sit awhile dependant on what all is fecked up, but I won't speculate until I look see. If we have anyone that's seen this before please elaborate, what I've seen so far in the shop manual appears to be roller bearings.
I've done a lot of dirt bike and metric street bike tranny's in my younger years, guess I'll be learning HD tranny, appears quite simple if I don't have to pull the entire tranny case, wish me luck and I hope to be back in the wind before too long.
I have had the worst luck on mechanical chit this year always seems like when it rains it pours,,, I think of a saying a friend told me once, trouble is like banana's it comes in bunches sometimes, I'm ready for it to stop coming now!!!!!

Looking at my shop manual on the exploded view I'm guessing it's one of the (four) one-piece split cage bearings has come apart only type bearing in there that it could be,,,, I'll have it out sometime tomorrow,,, too frustrated at the moment to continue working on it,,, need a beer,,, make it need a beer or two or three.
