Okay, no jokes about *** bearings from Canada

That's bad news John. See, there's the advantage to living up north.....at least then I could give you the speech about how it's late in the season and you'll have all winter to work on it, but a Tennessee winter is a lot shorter than up here.

If I can be of any help, let me know. I won't make the same mistake as last time, (remember?) instead of asking the "new at the time" Service Manager at the shop, I'll take your questions directly to one of the mechanics.

CroK, 02 through 06 FLH fits my tranny,,,, list it in the classifieds and you can probably sell your 99 RK cluster there.

Baker said they would have thier parts to me in three days. Not sure if my gear set will work in your's but it may be a possibility. I do have to say my tranny has 67,000 known miles on it. The speedo broke while previous owner had it so not sure how much over what is showing on the existing speedo. Let me know if yer interested, and I'll let you know how things go with the install on my end. As long as I don't screw things up, I don't think I'll be needing them. I would understand if you weren't cool with the mileage it has on it so dont worry about turning the offer down if it comes to that.
Thanks Phil I still have you in mind,,, waiting to hear back on an offer for a new 0 miles after sale complete tranny.

John - besides the obvious pieces did you find above normal metalic paste in the bottom of your case?
The reason I ask - my primary around the clutch (i think) has been making a whirring sound for the last couple thousand miles. I took it to the dealer and of course - it was normal. Last night I drained all fluids and everything looked good until I got to the tranny drain plug. It had 1/2 inch of powdered metal (some shiny) on it. It was way more then previous tranny changes. It's got me worried!

There was quite a bit of metal filings, powder, and 2 small pieces of needles on my speedo sensor which is also magnetic,,, along with the metal filings and bearing needle pieces on the drain plug.

Once the motor is broken in and you start getting excessive metal filings when you have not in past oil changes then that could be an indication there is something rubbing metal to metal or excessive wearing somewhere, there were filings and bits and pieces in the bottom of the tranny case when I pulled the cluster, the tranny is independent of the primary so your whirring sound could be coming from the tranny,,, these motors are hard to isolate noise sometimes.

I was having an intermittent problem on and off with my speedo reading too which usually indicates metal filings on the sensor or a bad sensor,,, it seems my problem was slowly manifesting itself over a period of time,,, strange thing though it never made bad noise until the last ride when I first starting hearing the tinking sounds and then bam it let go, on the other hand I don't hear all that well either.

John,
I was going through my service manual for my 07 and it shows a spacer between the two needle bearings in the main drive gear. I didn't see one in any of your pics. You stated that it was off spec by nearly an inch from the end. Could that have been your culprit? Maybe 06 5 speeds are different?

No Scorpion07,, it doesn't show a spacer in my shop manual or talk about one on the needle bearing install information,,, I'll look at the 05 tranny I have coming from IronSpirit, and see if it has a spacer in between the needle bearings ,,, as far as I know the 02 through 06 tranny's are the same on the FLH, but it's always possible for them to make improvements as they go along with refining the twin cam motors as they have done so far.
