Default SOHB primary adjuster

Has anyone tried the SOHB primary adjuster for the 07 and later twin cams?

If so I was wondering if it does what it claims and quietens up the noisy primary.

If you are talking about the HD adjuster, yes it does quiet down the primary some. It also does a good job of keeping the chain adjusted automaticaly. The best part is that it is a retroactive fit for all Big Twins at least back through EVO. I had a M6, but a spring broke. The HD is a different design.

I was talking about the S. Oregon Hot Bikes adjuster. It is an automatic adjuster with out the ratchet mechanism. My stock adjuster still allows the chain to slap around.

I installed the HD auto adjuster on my 03 Dyna and it is way noiser than before more so now than when first installed especially at idle in neutral. When pull clutch lever in it quiets down some. Is this normal with the HD adjuster?

Mine came with it from the factory but it is noisy. Thats why I was asking about the SOHB adjuster.

From the HD parts website: Indicates it is standard equipment on 07 and later touring, so I'd bet you already have it.

Automatic Primary Chain Tension Adjuster

Original Equipment on '06-later Dyna® and '07 Softail® and Touring models, this Automatic Primary Chain Adjuster eliminates the need to manually adjust the primary chain tension at traditional service intervals.

40063-05A

Fits '85-'06 Evolution® 1340 and Twin Cam powertrain. Requires separate purchase of model-specific primary gasket and seals.

Yea, I have the Harley auto tensioner but it is crap. Chain slaps around and makes noise. I was wondering if anyone has tried the adjuster from South Oregon Hot Bikes? Was wondering if it actually works as advertised and keeps the chain from slapping around when under load.

No one seems to be answering your question, so I'll come as close as I can. I had the SOHB adjuster on a 2001 Ultra. I liked it better than the Hayden unit because of the hydraulic, rather than spring operation. I can't say that I heard any difference in the primary, but it did seem to smooth out some of the chain lash that I had been feeling before the install. I also never had to do an adjustment in the 20,000 miles I had that bike. Don't know how much improvement it will give on the '07 bike over the factory unit though.

I know this isn't a direct answer to you question, but I just installed the HD unit yesterday. Haven't been on it long enough to talk about yet. I can report back later if you're interested.

I've got one in a box. I'll let you know in a couple of months.
